Worlds 2024 Final Preview: Can Faker Make It 5?

The final of Worlds 2024 is here, and we see none other than the game’s most successful team, T1, in yet another final. Many people doubted T1 at the start, but they made it.

It has been a fantastic experience watching Worlds this year. With many twists and turns, we’ve seen Gen.G crash again, missing out on that elusive final. We’ve seen BLG improve massively from the form they showed on the Swiss Stage. Then we have the formidable T1, who defied expectations and improved with each game.

The Teams

This page will provide a preview and insight into this final series of Worlds 2024. We will examine the recent games from both teams and look into what we might expect to happen here.

BLG

Last time out, we saw BLG exercise the ghosts of their past. At the semi-final stage last year, they fell apart against WBG. This year, they found themselves up against the same opposition but with a wildly different outcome. BLG always controlled the series and ran out 3-0 winners. It is hard to point out any player from that series, as the roster performed exceptionally well. Knight played flawlessly in games two and three, refusing to die. He could easily counter the Yone pick with his Akali as he dominated the matchup in game three. He also demonstrated how good he is on a mage after he locked in Syndra for game two. It was similar to BIN and XUN as well. Both performed incredibly well and barely put a foot wrong throughout the series.

Coming up against T1 in the final is an entirely different beast from what they may have experienced. BLG lost the last two international finals they competed in, the MSI 2023 and 2024 finals, but neither of these losses involved T1. BLG often fairs okay when up against T1. In the last two years, they have faced each other six times, and BLG has come out on top on three occasions. The top and mid-lane battles will be the most critical in this series. BIN against Zeus will be a fascinating battle as both players are happy to play to the minute of their champions. In the mid-lane, we see another Faker vs Knight battle. BLG will be hoping their improved meta read and understanding will be enough to see them to victory against the most successful League of Legends team in history.

T1

After an abysmal domestic season by T1 standards, the pressure was on to perform on the Worlds stage this year. The T1 we have witnessed all year competing in the LCK differed from the T1 we are used to seeing. They seemed slow to react and disjointed for large parts. As Worlds rolled around, people still determined what to expect from the LCK fourth seed due to their poor domestic form. As Worlds has gone on, they have grown in confidence with each series. T1 beat BLG in Worlds this year, winning a Bo1 in the Swiss Stage. A lot has changed since then as both teams have improved, and the meta has shifted again. In the semi-final, T1 faced up against Gen.G. It is a matchup they have lost in recent years, but every year, T1 at Worlds morph into a winning machine.

This is the third straight World Final T1 has made it to. They lost shockingly to DRX in 2022 but avenged it with a win in 2023. If they can overcome BLG here, it will secure back-to-back titles for T1. Faker will be aiming for that fifth Worlds title, and if the rumours of roster changes are true, what better way for this ZOFGK to go out than with another Worlds title? Keria could prove to be instrumental for T1 in this series. In their last two series, Keria pulled out the Pyke pick. This gives him immense roaming potential, and he has used it to influence all other lanes positively. If BLG cannot prevent and suppress his roaming, they will struggle to keep control of the map, and T1 will have an easy time setting up objectives and picks.

Betting on BLG vs T1

As history suggests, T1 is the obvious favourite in this final series. They have often handled this high-pressure situation, which is a familiar environment. Looking at GG.Bet it is T1 who is the favourite to win, with odds of 4/6 to win. Meanwhile, a BLG win has odds of 111/100. Final Thoughts

BLG overcame their ghosts of 2023 by beating WBG. T1 overcame their poor domestic form and record to beat Gen.G. Both teams overcame tremendous obstacles to make it to this final. It will be a great battle across the map, full of exciting plays and tactical battles.
