As the first semi-final is an all-LPL series, this one seems to fit only as an all-LCK series. LCK and LPL are often the top two dominating regions in League of Legends. Here, we see T1 face GEN.
It is a clash of two LCK heavyweights who have had to share their success in recent years. T1 is currently holding the Worlds title, having won it in 2023. Meanwhile, GEN has dominated the domestic scene. T1 has been underperforming domestically, and GEN has taken full advantage of that.
This section will examine each team’s previous games and give insight into the players and how this series may go. The quality of both rosters makes separating them nearly impossible. GEN have been performing much better through the year, but T1 are the masters of this tournament.
In their last series, they made light work of TES. In the Bo5 series, T1 ran out 3-0 winners. It was a straightforward series for T1 that they were always in total control of. This dominance showed early on when, in game one, T1 controlled the map through better macro. Then, in game two, T1 did not allow TES even to get a single kill in the whole game. Game three was then just another masterclass in macro and game management. Keria played Pyke in game three, and TES could not handle his constant roaming. He was vital for much of the early playmaking.
Coming into this series against GEN, T1 will be well aware of the danger GEN poses to them. After a run of disappointing domestic results against GEN, T1 will want to break that run on this stage. T1 is rediscovering its best form and coming at the best time possible. Zeus and Faker have always been consistent, but the others have struggled with the meta lately. As this tournament continues, we have seen Oner, Keria and Gumayusi rediscover themselves. Gumayusi was flawless in the TES series and did not die once. Being a typically squishy champion, it shows just how good his positional play is. That marks seven Bo5 Worlds series in a row in which he has not died. Keria and Oner looked back on top, with their influence prominent across the whole map throughout the series.
One of the favourites to win Worlds 2024, GEN’s expectations were extremely high coming into this year’s event. They started perfectly by going 3-0 in the Swiss Stage and advancing to knockouts at the first opportunity. Their Bo5 against FLY was the first time we have seen them perform since they went 3-0, meaning they had much more time to prepare. Even though FLY had demonstrated remarkable resilience through Worlds, most expected a routine win for GEN. It was not the case. GEN were out-played in games one and three and found themselves 2-1 down and only one game away from elimination. Luckily for GEN, Canyon got his hands on the Nidalee pick twice – a pick synonymous with Canyon. Kiin was consistent throughout the series, as were Peyz and Lehends in the bot lane.
It was a different story for mid-laner Chovy. Typically, at the heart of this roster, he did not seem like his usual self in this series. That was until the all-important game five. With everything on the line, Chovy could lock in the Smolder pick. Smolder was heavily prioritised or banned earlier in the tournament but has since fallen off, but Chovy reminded everyone why it should still be feared. GEN need to avoid another performance like this in their series against T1. If they perform as they did against FLY, T1 will make easy work of them. These teams are so challenging to separate as they both have the quality to beat one another. GEN is the slight favourite, according to the odds of GG.Bet, with odds of 20/29. Meanwhile, the odds of a T1 win are 107/100. (Odds subject to change.) The draft will heavily influence this series and primarily determine who has the best team comp and shot calls on the day. Comfort picks are likely in his series as both teams will look to play to their strengths and keep the picks safe.
This is going to be anything but a straightforward series. It will likely go to game five, as both teams will give everything and fight for every slight advantage. Each team will punish any mistakes from the other side, and the pressure will be much higher than any regional series these two have endured. T1 has proved time and time again that they can handle this pressure better than anyone else. For more betting advice, check out our LoL Worlds betting page.
