Riot to stabilize NLC after League ApS withdraws from operations

League ApS, the Northen League of Legends Championshuip (NLC) tournament organizer, has stated that it is no longer in a position to run the tournament.

This comes after the European’s Nordic tier two tournament ran its last few weeks with a skeleton crew amidst a series of management scandals. Here’s a rundown of the situation and what it means for the LoL Nordic Championship going forward.

The Northern League of Legends Championship scandals

In February, several former contractors and employees for the Northern League Championship came forward to announce that they were let go via Discord DMs. Others added that the league still owed them money from unpaid contracts, up to four and five figure sums.

League officials then issued an answer, in which they admitted to decline paying late fees. As late fees aren’t optional under European laws, they inadvertently admitted to the fault.

Following this, the NLC operated without casters, as a result of firing each of them. The games either had no official stream or were streamed with game audio alone. With this state being unheard of in 2026, the withdrawal of League ApS does not come as a surprise.

The future of the NLC

In its communication, League of Legends UK, IE and Nordics stated that they will ensure stability and continuity for the tournament. While there is no further information on how this will happen, Riot stated that they would provide updates.

Immediately, several prominent members of the community expressed their interest in contributing to the league.

Allegations of mismanagement and failures to pay contractors and employees stacked up against the NLC over the years.

Now that their previous tournament organizers are out, former casters and hosts for the league want to help the region rise to its potential.
